Yesterday

Musing on wallpaper, long stroll along the southern-most tip of Helsinki, which was so beautiful despite the slush, dreamt of an old sofa, dinner with friends in a neighbourhood bistro. Timing this quick little post just before we light the candles for Earth Hour.

Some more photos by Christian Burmester. Pictures of this Copenhagen home make me impatient to once again have pale wooden floors... I love the display of artwork, especially in the dining room. Soothing and serene.

Fashion Meets Interiors

A renovation snippet from yesterday. We managed to get the window up and since this, the wall has started to take shape, too. The kitchen will end up on the other side, and our daughter's room on this side. The corner at the far end will be blocked off as a closet with a door in the hallway.

Remonttivilaus eiliseltä. Ikkuna saatiin onnellisesti upotettua ja seinätkin ovat sitten tämän kuvaamisen alkaneet muotoutua. Seinämän toiselle puolelle tulee keittiö ja tälle puolelle tytön huone. Peränurkassa näkyvä kulma eroteaan eteisen puolelle avautuvaksi komeroksi.

I was only supposed to pick up some groceries, but ended up carrying home a chair. The nearby antique shop is closing down, and was selling everything off at half price. I covered the seat pad with an old pillowcase for now, but it could look nice with something more vibrant.

Maitokauppareissulta tarttuikin mukaan tuoli. Lähiantiikkikauppa on muuttamassa ja kaikki oli myytävänä puoleen hintaan. Hätävarapäälliseksi laitoin vanhan tyynyliinan, mutta tähän voisi yhdistää vaikka jonkun hauskankin kuosin.

Whenver I walk past this entrance I have to stop and admire the tiles. Wouldn't mind something similar for our hallway...

Aina ohi kulkiessa jään ihastelemaan tätä oviaukkoa. Tuollaiset laatat kelpaisivat vaikka omaan eteiseen...

On the wall

In my quest to find some lovely wallpapers to use in our home, I came across these rather fun ideas for adorning walls. I was woken up by the kids at the crack of dawn this morning, and what better way to start the day than a large cup of steamy, milky coffee and a little browse for inspiration. Have a good day!

From our old (tidy, finished!) house

I was rummaging through old photos a couple of days ago including some from our previous home. In the middle of all this renovation mess I was reminded that we were tripping over wooden boards and sneezing dust for quite some time in our old house, too. Yet we managed to finish what we set out to, so there must be hope, although it doesn't necessarily feel like it at this stage... It's quite nice to throw in a little trip down memory lane here, as I decided to get rid of all the previous house posts when we moved. It would have felt a little weird having them all here thinking of the new owners. But I think these can stay.  

Muutama päivä sitten kävin läpi vanhoja kuvia ja jäin entisiä kotikuvia tuijottelemaan. Täällä remonttisotkun  keskellä muistelin, että tuollakin kompasteltiin laudanpätkiin ja aivasteltiin pölyn seassa aikamoisen pitkään. Silti saatiin valmiiksi nurkat, jotka oli tarkoituskin, eli toivoa kai on, vaikkei aina siltä tunnu... Ihan mukavaa sujauttaa blogiin pieni muistelukierros vanhasta talostamme. Muuton yhteydessä päädyin poistamaan kaikki entiseen kotiin liittyvät postaukset, kun olisi tuntunut oudolta uusia omistajia ajatellen. Mutta nämä säilyköön nyt täällä.
